Lineage OS 14.1 for Samsung Galaxy S8 (Plus) based on Android 7.1.2 Nougat

Following a long wait, the first LineageOS build for the Galaxy S8 and S8+ is now available for download. The ROM is based on Lineage OS 14.1 Android 7.1.2 Nougat version which comes to us unofficially. This LOS 14.1 unofficial build has been tested on the Galaxy S8 and S8+ international variants with model number SM-G950F/FD and G955F/FD. The unlocked or carrer based variants SM-G950U or G955U won’t work for this ROM. We already have TWRP and root for the S8 devices. Now it’s times to flash AOSP based ROMS.

Developer Fevax says the Lineage OS 14.1 for S8/S8+ is an alpha build and in no state to be used as a daily driver. There are only few things that you will see working with this build such as the ROM boots up successfully. Apart from that, the audio, bootanimation, Bluetooth, brightness level, WiFi, and much more are working fine. However, RIL and all the network related functionalities like calls, SMS, signals need some work. So if you are among the few who would like to test the firmware, can go ahead and grab the ROM and flash via TWRP.

Before you install:

There are certain things you need to consider before you begin flashing the Lineage OS ROM. Your S8/S8+ device needs to be setup with latest TWRP recovery. Once you flash a custom ROM, the device’s warranty may void.

Secondly, it will trip Know counter. Which means, Knox security will be disabled and Knox dependent apps may not work. Samsung pay may be broken forever.

Finally, take a full Nandroid backup before you begin. You may not be able to restore to the backup you took of the previous stock TouchWiz ROM after flashing this alpha build. So backup to PC as well. We won’t be responsible for any damage.

Currently Galaxy S8+ and S8 international variants are receiving the unofficial LineageOS build with model numbers S8 SM-G950F/FD and S8+ SM-G955F/FD.

You will also need Gapps and SuperSU or Magisk for root.

How to install Lineage OS 14.1 for Samsung Galaxy S8 (Plus)?

Step 1: Make sure your S8+ device has latest TWRP recovery installed. See how to root and install TWRP on Galaxy S8(Plus).

Step 2: Download Lineage OS ROM zip, Gapps, and SuperSU or Magisk zip and transfer them to device storage.

Step 3: Reboot into TWRP recovery.

Step 4: Take a full Nandroid backup.

Step 5: Now Wipe dalvik/cache/data/factory reset.

Step 6: Go home and tap on Install option to flash the ROM.

Step 7: Similarly, flash the latest Gapps and SuperUS and Magisk for root access.

Step 8: Reboot device to system.
