Update: This post has been updated to work with latest Samsungย Experience 9.0 OTA update for the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 based on Android 8.0 Oreo. Also, download the latest TWRP for Note 8 compatible with Oreo TWRP v3.2.1.ย  is the latest flagship from the Korean electronic giant. It pre-booked record 650,000 on the first five days of its launch. Note 8 got popular not just for its stunning hardware specification, but also because it comes with the latest Samsung Experience 8.5 based on Android 7.1.1 Nougat. It also recently received the latest security patch level from AOSP sources. Now, with the TWRP available, you can root the Note 8 easily. See how to root Galaxy Note 8.

Developers and contributors of the Note 8 have already deployed the TWRP recovery (unofficial for now) which works perfectly fine on the latest firmware. This also means that the Samsung Note 8 can now be rooted with either SuperSU or Magisk. Unlike other Android phones, as we use the Odin tool for Samsung, you donโ€™t actually need to unlock the Bootloader manually. Odin tool handles it all. The only thing you need to do is enable OEM unlock, which we will show you in later.

Here in this tutorial we will show you how to unlock the Bootloader, flash latest TWRP using Odin and ultimately root the Note 8. The procedure is similar to many other Samsung devices such as the Galaxy S8/S8+. Note that the rooting is only applicable for Note 8 devices on Exynos processors. Do not try this on Snapdragon variants of Note 8.

Unfortunately, the CF-Auto-Root binaries are not yet available for the Note 8. CFAR is an alternative method to root Note 8 without TWRP. We will update the post once CFAR binaries or packages are available for Note 8.

Notes and warnings:

  1. Rooting is an advanced procedure,. If you are naive about what rooting Android is, make sure to gain enough knowledge before proceeding.
  2. Rooting, installing TWRP, and unlocking Bootloader may result in voiding the Samsung device warranty.
  3. This will trip Knox after flashing custom binaries onto your phone.
  4. You may no longer be able to receive official Samsung OTA or System Updates. You will have to settle for flashing full stock firmware after rooting.
  5. The following TWRP is only for Galaxy Note 8 devices running on Samsungโ€™s Exynos processors.
  6. This TWRP isnโ€™t compatible with Snapdragon variants including USA (SM-N950U/A/T/P/V), Chinese(0/8/6), Hong Kong(0), Japanese(SC-*), Canadian(W) variants.
  7. Tested working variants include the global Note 8 devices like (Exynos variants โ€“ N950F/FD/X/N).
  8. Download the Magisk, SuperSU, and decryption zip from below and transfer them to phone storage.
