Download and install LineageOS 15 for OnePlus 5 based on Android 8.0 Oreo

Following the release of Googleโ€™s AOSP sources for the official stable Android 8.0 Oreo, a lot of developers started building custom ROMS based on Oreo. We saw the first AOSP 8.0.0 Oreo ROM for Xiaomi Note 4/4X, OnePlus One, Nexus series, etc. Now, with Lineage OS sources being public with Android v8, we have seen several Lineage OS 15 ROMS for OnePlus phones. The latest device to receive a Lineage OS 15 unofficial build is the OnePlus 5. Download and see how to install from below. The details of the ROM are listed below.

Developerย King_lilrowrowย has deployed the first LineageOS 15 for OnePlus 5 based on Android 8.0.0 Oreo. Being the first Alpha build, the ROM may consist of some bugs. Plus, not all features shall be working. As of now,ย RIL, Bluetooth, Volume/Power Buttons, Speakers/Mic, Display/Graphics, Camera, and more are working. Things like WiFi, Home Button (on screen-keys enabled by default), Fingerprint Sensor, and Notification Slider may not be working with this first build. However, with further builds, you can find all these working soon.

How to install Lineage OS 15 for OnePlus 5 based on Android 8.0.0 Oreo?

Being the first build, the LineageOS 15 files for OnePlus 5 does not come as a TWRP flashable ROM. LOS 15 comes in two files called boot image and system image. You will need to flash the boot and system images via Fastboot method.

Prerequisites

1.ย The listed firmware isย compatible with OnePlus 5 device only.

2. Make sure OnePlus 5 device is rooted with latest TWRP and Bootloader Unlocked.

3. If you are running official Oxygen OS, it is recommended to wipe the boot, system, and data from TWRP. If not, wipe it using the fastboot method below.

4.ย Enable USB Debuggingย and OEM Unlock from Developer Optionsย on your device. To do so, go to Settings > Developer Options >ย Enable USB Debugging from there.

5. Easily setup ADB and Fastboot on Windows, Mac OS, Linux or Chrome OS from here. You may also like Universal ADB drivers.

Installation instructions

Step 1: Download the Lineage OS 15 files for OnePlus 5 from here. Place the file on your PC where you can easily locate it.

Step 2: Connect your Android device to PC via USB cable. Trust the connection by checking โ€œAlways allow from this computerโ€ when you connect the device for the first time.

Step 3:ย Make sure your PC has ADB and Fastboot environment setup.

Step 4:ย Keep the device plugged in and open aย command prompt window or terminal on your PC where the file is located. Type cmd in the address bar and hit enter.

Step 5:ย Reboot your Android device into fastboot mode. To do so, issue the following command through cmd or terminal.

adb reboot fastboot

Step 6:ย Once into the recovery, itโ€™s time to erase the boot and system images.ย Type the following command in terminal.

fastboot erase boot

Step 7:ย Now flash the LineageOS 15 boot image. Issue the following command in terminal. type the exact filename.

fastboot flash boot <boot image filename>.img

Step 8:ย Now flash the LineageOS 15 system image. Issue the following command in terminal. type the exact filename.

fastboot flash system <system filename>.img

Note: You may need to erase the previous OxygenOS system first. Issue the following before flashing LineageOS system.

fastboot erase system
