Samsung Galaxy S8 (Plus) latest July 2017 Security patch update [G950FXXU1AQG5]

Samsung becomes the first major smartphone manufacturer after Google to compile the latest July 2017 security patch for the stunning TouchWiz firmware. Ever since the launch of Android 7.0 Nougat, the manufacturer has changed the firmware name to Samsung Experience 8.1. With the SE v8.1, the user interface has become more materialistic and light weight. This makes the Samsung Experience firmware perform faster. With several monthly OTA updates, Samsung has now released July 2017 security patch to its S8 and S8 Plus flagship phones.

As the July update comes to the S8 and S8 Plus, we may see similar OTA rolling out for the Galaxy S7 & S7 Edge as well. The firmware build number (Baseband version) has been updated to G950FXXU1AQG5 and G955FXXU1AQG5 for S8 SM-G950F/FD and S8 Plus SM-G955F/FD respectively.

Apart from the monthly security patch, the upgrade brings camera improvements, and stability to the Wireless Charging. Further improvements to the stability of the firmware can be seen with various optimizations and bug fixes. The full changelog can be found in the images below.

The OTA update comes in a large package of 750 MB is size. It can be found and downloaded from Settings > Software Updates > Download Updates manually. There you will be notified of any OTA updates available. Download OTA and install via stock recovery. Alternatively, you can download and flash the full stock firmware with the steps listed below.

Samsung has also promised Android 7.1.1 Nougat and eventually the upcoming Android O support for the S8 and S8 Plus. The manufacturer has already begun testing the 7.1.1 Nougat OS. However, as the stable Android O sources aren’t available just yet, it will take longer for other manufacturers to compile the same for their devices.

The latest July 2017 security updates with build number G950FXXU1AQG5 can be downloaded directly from Samsung servers. All you need is the SamFirm tool listed here, the model number of your Samsung device, and the CSC code or product code from here.

Once you have the full stock firmware file, Install the latest Android 7.0 Nougat firmware via Odin tool. This will also help you restore your S8 to complete stock or Unbrick the device.
