Coolpad Note 3

The Coolpadย Note 3 is an entry-level device which was released way back in 2015 with Android 5.1 Lollipop out of the box. Despite coming with a MediaTek processor, the CoolPad Note 3 has defied all odds with the development support it has received from the tech community. The device recently received official support for a new AOSP based custom ROM which goes by the name of MadOS and is available thanks to XDA member DerTeufel1980. The ROM brings with it Android 7.1.2 ย and June security patch for the device along with all other Nougat features that come with it.

The ROM is currently in stable state implying that it is safe to use as a daily driver for your device. Furthermore, the ROM is capable of maximizing performance on your device provided you change your data partition from ext4 to f2fs, which should be fairly simple with the help of TWRP custom recovery.

Install MadOS 7.1.2 for CoolPad Note 3

Prerequisites

Instructions

  1. Download above files and place them in the root of your internal storage
  2. Reboot into TWRP recovery
  3. Wipe data if coming from a different base than AOSP
  4. Install MadOS 7.1.2
  5. Install GApps.
Note: Developers have asked users to only use arm64 platform Android 7.1 based pico or nano version
  6. Reboot to system

Unfortunately, the ROM comes with a few caveats of its own, the most concerning of which is the lack of VoLTE support for the device which makes things tricky for our users in India. Users are also reporting issues low audio and adaptive brightness issues for the device. With the development team pressing hard to solve these issues, expect a fully functional ROM with latest security patches in the subsequent days.
