Android Security Updates

Google has released its monthly Android Security Bulletin which contains all the latest commits added to the Android Source code. Nexus and Pixel users can also find the latest July Security Update for their devices in the security bulletin.

The July bulletin has two security patch level strings to provide its partners under the Open Handset Alliance (OHA) with complete security patch levels for effectiveย vulnerability and bug fixing. The two security patch levels are mentioned below:

  • 2017-07-01: This is a Partial security patch level string which addresses major issues preceding July.
  • 2017-07-05: This is a Complete security patch level string which addresses the remainder of the issues and bugs between July 1, 2017, to July 5, 2017

The Partial security patch (2017-07-01) targets the following vulnerabilities and bugs:

  • Framework
  • Libraries
  • Media Framework
  • System UI

The Complete security patch (2017-07-05) targets additional issues:

  • Broadcom Components
  • HTC Components
  • Kernel Components
  • MediaTek Components
  • NVIDIA Components
  • Qualcomm Components
  • Qualcomm closed-source Components

These patches generally combat the issues ofย Remote Code Execution,ย Elevation of Privilege,ย Information Disclosure,ย Denial of service and other miscellaneous threats. These updates come at a time when the Play Store and other third-party APK ย hosting sites have come under Malware and Adware attacks
