Downloads - OnePlus Oxygen OS Open Beta 15 for OnePlus 3 and Open Beta 6 for OnePlus 3T

Oxygen OS is the primary stock firmware for all of the OnePlus phones including the stunning flagship duo OnePlus 3/3T, One, OnePlus 2 and X. Now, Android smartphone manufacturers release a Beta testing version with the latest AOSP sources integrated into their firmware. Likeย  Sonyโ€™s concept ROM, Samsungโ€™s beta Program, Googleโ€™s Developer Preview, etc. the OnePlus too comes with an Oxygen OS Open Beta. This is now being updated to the Open Beta 15 for the OnePlus 3 and the Beta 6 for OnePlus 3T. Although, the OTA will roll out in the first week of May 2017, hereโ€™s whatโ€™s new with the firmware upgrade.

The current Open Beta 14 for OP3 is quite stable considering itโ€™s supposed to be the beta testing ROM. In fact, it is currently the most stable firmware upgrade from OnePlus. Looking at the upcoming update log (or changelog), the Beta 15 brings some most sought after bug fixes and optimization including the Battery drain and Performance management optimizations, Bluetooth aptX, and aptX HD, changes to the user interface, fixed the phone app, and much more.

So, how do we know whatโ€™s new with the next Oxygen OS Beta update? Well, itโ€™s simple. See, Hydrogen OS is developed for the OnePlus Chinese phone variants. As Google and its services are banned in China, the firmware doesnโ€™t come with Gapps integration. Hence, the manufacturer made a new ROM for the Chinese variants named H2OS. However, H2OS comes with the same features as that of the Oxygen OS for the global variants. The H2OS Public Beta and Oxygen OS Open Beta runs parallel to each other. They bring the same updates with a little tweak here and there. So yesterday, H2OS Public Beta 12 and Beta 6 were released and the future is exciting! You might also want to check out the H2OS update log.

Hereโ€™s the possible update log for the Open Beta 15 for OnePlus 3

System

  • Upgrade to April 1, 2017, Security Patch Level.
  • Enabled support for Bluetooth aptX and aptX HDย for higher quality music.
  • Changes to the title bar.
  • Changes to switch.
  • Changes to dialog box style.
  • High power consumption management. (Possible fix for heating issue)
  • Battery optimization.

Network and Communication

  • Redesigned user interface for incoming calls.
  • Adjustments to the phone app and its information interfaces.

Desktop/Homescreen

  • Some changes to Clock Widget font.

Settings

  • Optimization of menus. ย Easier to find options.

The major upgrade comes to the Android system; or the stock firmware as weย known it. It features the latest April 2017 security patch level. OnePlus may also surprise us by compiling the May 2017 security patches just like they did with the previous Open Beta 13 update. OnePlusย brought the March security updates even before the Nexus phones. Anyway, moving back to the update log, Battery optimization has finally been brought which will fix the heating issue as well due to high power consumption. Moreover, the manufacturer enabled the support for Bluetoothย aptX and aptX HD. This means high-quality output for all.

What still needs to be fixed?ย The first thing we need desperately is the sudden App crash fix. There is no word from the manufacturer about it. Many apps crash or force closes suddenly while operating.

On the contrary, we canโ€™t really expect the Android 7.1.2 Nougat firmware at this moment. Let the stock firmware get stableย first.

So where can you download the Open Beta 15 update? Considering the past update schedule, you can expect the new Oxygen OS update on the 1st of May, 2017. So keep checking the System Updates option under Settings app or head over to the OnePlus downloads repository.
