OnePlus is rolling out a new Open Beta 7 for one of the manufacturer’s best-known phone which is, of course, the OnePlus 3. The Open Beta 7 is basically an upgrade to the previous Oxygen OS 3.5.5 Community Build. The community build went by the name Oxygen OS which was later renamed to Open Beta. Under this Open Beta project, OnePlus development team releases a test build so OnePlus 3 users can provide feedbacks and bugs that need to be fixed, thus making the Oxygen OS OTA updates more stable.

The Open Beta 7 is still based on the newer Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow. However, this is a pre-build for the upcoming Android 7.0 Nougat with the next Open Beta 8. That means after this you will directly get the most awaited Nougat update for the OnePlus 3. For now, the Open Beta 7 build brings major enhancements to the design, user interface, and much more. It also brings major enhancements to the performance by releasing the fixes to force close and unusual crash of launcher as well. The complete changelog is listed below.

How to update OnePlus 3 to latest Open Beta 7 with Pre Nougat Build?

The following tutorial will get your OnePlus 3 to the latest Open Beta 7 still based on the Oxygen OS. This guide will enable you to flash the firmware from any Oxygen OS version or even a device running a custom ROM. There are basically 2 methods to install the ROM. One is via stock recovery or ADB sideload (OTA update) and the other is via TWRP recovery (flashable full firmware file). The methods are listed below and will direct you to the exact tutorial.

There are basically 2 methods to install the ROM. One is via stock recovery or ADB sideload (OTA update). Use this only if you are running on the official Oxygen OS or a previous Open Beta version like 6.

Secondly, you can update it via TWRP recovery as well. Both the flashable full firmware file and the OTA are available. The methods are listed below and will direct you to the exact tutorial.

Non-Rooted devices: use OTA update and flash via adb sideload or stock recovery

If you are coming from the official Oxygen OS 3.2.7/ 3.2.6 then download the complete firmware file (Full ROM) and install it via adb sideload method. For this method to work, you need to setup ADB and fastboot environment on your PC, connect your device via USB, and enter “adb sideload <filename>.zip” command via terminal or command prompt.  To install OTA update via ADB sideload, download the file from above and head over to this tutorial for detailed steps: How to install OTA updates on Android device using ADB sideload method?

If you are coming from the previous Open Beta (Oxygen OS 3.5.5 Community Build) then simply grab the OTA and manually flash it using stock recovery. Transfer OTA to internal storage. Boot into stock recovery and hit “apply updates from storage”. Select the OTA and profit. For a detailed tutorial on using stock recovery, head over to this tutorial: How to Install Oxygen OS OTA Update on OnePlus devices with Stock Recovery. (Method one there.) This method may not work with every OnePlus device. If the stock recovery method fails then you flash the OTA using ADB sideload method as well.

Rooted devices: use TWRP flashable full ROM zip file and OTA update

For those of you who have rooted and set up a custom TWRP recovery onto their OnPlus 3 device, can manually flash the Open beta 7 flashable zip file. You can proceed with dirty flash, meaning, without wiping data, cache, etc. Simply boot into TWRP recovery and flash the latest full signed flashable zip by tapping the install button.
