Samsung released a huge update to its latest flagship phone, the Galaxy Note 5, taking it to Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow update. Itโ€™s a jump from the 5.1.1 Lollipop firmware and Samsung seems to have skipped the Android 6.0 one. Besides the Note 5 device, Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge were among the first devices to have received the update from its manufacturer. The Marshmallow OTA update comes to the Note 5 for theย SM-N920C for now with baseband number N920CXXU2BPB6 and comes with many new features along with the latest TouchWiz UI.

As it comes to Cambodian variant, it is not long that the update will roll out for other regions soon enough. The update is rolling out regionally and soon you can see the update pop up on your device. There are two methods to flash the update. First is the usual Odin method that will perform a clean full firmware install and second is the OTA method. The OTA method generates an update notification OTA notification and you perform the usual over the air update without losing any data.

Follow the instructions below and take a look at the two methods from below.

Warning: Although going through this procedure should not cause harm or any damage to your device, it remains an unofficial process and you should be cautious about it. Readerโ€™s discretion is advised.

Prerequisites

1. Verify your device for compatibility. Check out the download section.

2.ย Enable USB Debugging on your device. To do so, go to Settings>About Phone> Tap on the Build Number several times until you get a newย Developer Options in the Settings.ย Openย Developer Options and enable USB Debugging from there. Trust the connection by allowing it when you connect it to your PC for the first time.

3. Make sure you have latest device drivers setup on your PC for a better connection. Get it from the download section official from the manufacturer.

4.ย To be sure, fully charge your device as the process make take a while.

5. Backup everything before you proceed. Odin performs a clean install, thatย you will lose apps, data, media, etc.

Method 1: Install Note 5 Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow N920CXXU2BPB6ย Via Odin

Step 1: Downloadย the listed firmwareย for your for your Galaxy device. Extract the zip file to get the firmware with .tar or .tar.md5 extension and place at a location where you can easily locate it in yourย PC.ย 

Step 2:ย Now boot your device into Download/Odin Mode. To do so, turn off your device completely and then press and hold Power button + Volume Down + Home keys for a few seconds. Ifย you see a warning sign press Volume up/ Volume down to get the Odin screen.

Step 3: If you already have Odin software on your PC then simply runย the Odin3_3.10.7.exeย file. If not, then download the Odin3.zip file from the download section and extract it. Run Odin software as administrator.

Step 4:ย While your device is still in the Odin Mode, connect your device to your PC using a USB cable.

Step 5:ย After a successful connection, the ID: COM in the Odin shouldย turn Blue and an Added!!ย message should be displayed in the Log tab. In case your deviceย doesnโ€™t show up in Odin, then you can troubleshoot it with the steps given at the end of the tutorial.

Step 6: Now click onย AP button and addย the firmware file by navigating to the file path. Once added, it should showย like thisย โ€” File Path\N920CXXU2BPB6_N920COLB2BPB6_CAM.tar.md5

Step 7:ย Take care that only Auto Reboot and F.Reset Time are selected in the Options tab. Do not check Re-Partition.

Step 8: Once done, verify everything and proceed with installation by selecting Start button. If itโ€™s a 4 file firmware, then take a look at the following image:

Step 9: When you get a PASS! message in the Log tab on your Odin software, that means firmware has successfully been installed and the device will restart itself. If not then reboot manually.

Whenย ย you see the boot animation, you can enjoy your new firmware. Be patient as first boot may take a while. However, if the system doesnโ€™t boot up for a long time,ย then go through the following.

How to Fix Bootloop on Samsung Galaxy Device?

If you come across boot loop or your Samsung Galaxy device is stuck at the boot logo then factory reset your device from the recovery. To do so, turn of your device (also remove the battery if applicable and put it back again) and reboot into recovery mode byย press and holding Powerย + Volume down + Home keys for a few seconds. Fromย the Recovery, select Wipe Data / Factory Reset.ย Confirm the action and reboot once done. Your device should now boot up.

How to Troubleshoot Connectivity problem on Samsung Galaxy Device?

If your device doesnโ€™t show up in the Odin software, then turn off USB Debugging and turn it on again and Reboot. You can also reinstall the Samsung USB Drivers or tryย changing the USB cable and connection ports from device manager.

Method 2: Install Note 5 Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow N920CXXU2BPB6ย Viaย OTA and Stock Recovery

This is an old way and a bit complex process. Itโ€™s better you use the Odin method from above.

Step 1: Make sure you are on latest OK7 Android 5.1.1 Lollipop firmware or flash it via ODIN. Download it from here.

Step 2: Go to settings and check for updates.

Note: If theย update doesnโ€™t show up, following the extra step below:

Step 3: Root your device and Install root explorer or any file explorer that supports root like ES Explorer.

Step 4: Go to /efs/imei/mps_code.dat -> edit -> and replace file content to CAM.

Step 5: Now, go to /system/csc/CAM/system/csc and copy all files to /system/csc

Step 6: Re-flash the firmware OK7 with region CAM via ODIN.

Step 7: Reflash firmware OK7, region CAM via ODIN.

Step 8: Go to recovery and wipe.

Step 9: Check for updates now and voila, it should download a big update ~ 1.3GB.
